Together with my husband Jon, I founded Understood to help others on the journey to understanding who they are, through self-discovery.

Growing up, I was always a bit of an anxious child who would often over think everything, but with this strong desire to feel understood in the world. For the longest time, I just assumed I was too sensitive, when actually I felt misunderstood. For as long as I can remember, I have been very intuitive with the needs of others, and strived to offer compassion and understanding, especially as that is what I have always desired the most.

Like most people, I have had my struggles with my mental health throughout my life, mostly formed from past traumas or life just being, well life!

But in 2017, that was my toughest year, and the year of what I can only describe as ‘mental numbness’. After my search for the ‘right’ therapist did not go to plan, I had no other option but to help myself get through this period in my life. And that is how my journey to self-discovery started.

I invested so much time in understanding and accepting who I am... my thought process to circumstances, my reactions and my emotional triggers. By processing past traumas through journaling, being creative, music, listening to my own needs and offering myself so much acceptance... I found that I was my own salvation.

Resulting in true self-awareness and self-love. For the first time in my life, I knew I was enough.

Fast forward a few years, I am now married to my soul mate and have a beautiful daughter, Bodhi. Like most people, the years did not come without their challenges. But through them, I always continue to listen to my needs, know my boundaries and be my biggest advocate.

I realised the work I had done on myself, to navigate through life with this deep understanding of who I am, is something I could help others with. And after 2+ years of creating our first product, Understood is finally ready to share with you all.

As a family, we are very passionate about raising awareness for mental health and supporting stamping out stigmas of society, that still forces us to feel like we should not share traumas or experiences. We should. Being understood by others goes hand in hand with relatability.

We wanted to create a raw brand, that’s main focus is supporting others on their journeys. By giving you the tools to help yourself feel... Understood.

With peace and light,

Sophie & Jon
